Domino’s is back with another customer appreciation campaign, but this time, they’re flipping the script on tipping. The new “You Tip, We Tip” promotion offers a $3 reward to customers who tip their delivery drivers $3 or more.

The promo is launching on April 29th, 2024, with the intent to show appreciation for both customers and delivery drivers. And of course, get more orders out the door. By tipping their drivers, customers are “rewarded” for their generosity in the form of a redeemable coupon.

Christopher Thomas-Moore, Domino’s senior vice president of customer and store experience, in a statement: “We know the effort it takes to get up and leave the house in pursuit of a hot, delicious carryout pizza. Domino’s diehard carryout customers are really like carryout heroes, and to show our gratitude, we’re giving them $3 to use on their next carryout order.

Why “You Tip, We Tip”?

With this promo, Domino’s is acknowleding the growing pressure to tip, even in situations where it might not be customary. Their goal is to highlight the value of tipping delivery drivers who ensure your pizza arrives piping hot and fresh.

Previously, Domino’s January 2022 “Carryout Tips” campaign which was a similar initiative offering a $3 coupon to customers who chose carryout over delivery. And then we had the sweet mama jama of all promos, the recent Free Emergency Pizza which debuted in October and lasted through December. Anyone who ordered a pie received a coupon for a free medium pie twenty-four hours later, or the next day. Two for one anyone?

Is There a Catch?

There’s not exactly a catch, but the $3 coupon does have a one-week validity period which encourages repeat business, potentially turning a one-time order into a loyal repeat customer. And the coupon caps out at $3 so, no you’re not going to tip $10 or more and get it right back in the form of a coupon. That would just be a wash for everyone involved except the tax man.

Domino’s is the first major pizza chain to implement a customer-tipping program, turning the standard model upside down. If anything, it’s a great gimmick to drum up business. Of which I’ll be partaking.
