A horrified local took a peek inside a garbage can behind a new Little Caesar’s Pizza location in Portugal out of curiosity. What they found was shocking and resulted in a bevy of responses discussing the blatant food waste.

The appalling find was posted to the Reddit r/Anticonsumption by a poster who had made the discovery. They took pictures of the scene which consisted of whole pizzas piled on top of one another in a dejected heap.

The post was captioned saying: “Two days in a row I checked their bins out of curiosity…I wasn’t surprised.”

Naturally, Redditors were shocked but some were well aware of the practice having worked at Little Caesar’s themselves or a similar chain. Others couldn’t get over the fact that Little Caesar’s existed outside of the United States because their pizza is “trash”.

“I knew a guy that worked at a little Caesars. This is typical. Every night 40ish pounds of “pizza” gets thrown away.”

“You can only look at that because it’s new. Once they get settled in they lock the dumpsters full of edible food so homeless people can’t eat it. Admittedly it might also be for raccoons but it’s still horrifying to throw that much food away.”

There have been similar findings at other chains, like another post made on Reddit during this past Fall. The Redditor had come across a 20-ton dumpster piled high with…Krispy Kreme Donuts still inside their packaging and a swarm of bee’s busy trying to bust into the donuts for the sugar. A good Samaritan helped them along by opening the boxes so the bees could feast, and take the sugar back to their hive.

The Little Caesar’s waste debacle didn’t have the same happy ending…just a large amount of food with no home.
