A video filmed at Starbucks and subsequently uploaded to TikTok, showcases a sickening display – a ‘just hired’ barista was tipped a nice sum of cash by a ‘super nice’ couple, however everything wasn’t as it seemed…as is so often the case with social media.
The TikTok video was exposed for being fake on Twitter by an employee who claims to work at the very same Starbucks where the video was filmed.
The staged scene that was set dripped with cheese right from the start.
A chad-type donning a green apron, walked to the waiting car that was already filming from inside.
His exaggerated wide-eyed expression and pronounced, precarious juggling act with the Starbucks drinks was over the top, and not to be believed for a minute.
From the set-up it can be seen that all involved are gearing up for a cheese-off with one another.
“Oh my goodness. You’re doing a great job“. says an off-camera man reeking of the stench of cheese.
“Oh wow, Do you need help?”
“I-I’m a little new“, green apron stammered, fooling no one.
After hemming and hawing over the drinks some more, he asked if they had everything and leaned on the window lingering for the pay-off.
The girl in the drivers seat, fanned out what appeared to be five or six $20 bills in full view of the camera, and green apron tried his best to play the part.
“F-F-For…for?”
“All these drinks. Yeah.”
Green apron did some more bad acting with the Velveeta practically pouring from his ears.
The ‘closer’ to the video, sees green apron outdo himself by jumping into the air and spazzing out with a celebratory fist-pump.
@youngmoneymal was quick to call out the TikTok channel for staging the entire unscrupulous scene for content on their channel @alohaocean.
The tweet roared to life with over 280K likes and over 2,000 replies. Comment after comment of appalled people disgusted with the lengths that the TikTok channel had gone to, ‘go viral’.
“As a former food worker, understanding they just made the barista make all those drinks (probably by themselves) just to make a fake tip video instead of tipping the actual inconvenienced person makes me so angry.”
“He’s an old coworker I used to work with as a lifeguard back in 2014. This video is staged. the driver is his gf :)”
Green apron and co. are probably a little embarrassed that their ploy was uncovered and thousands continue to slam them in the comments.
Maybe it will be the sign the channel needs to…hang up that apron.
