The crave-worthy Smashed Jack, has officially earned a permanent spot on menus nationwide. This news comes after the burger’s successful introduction, during a soft launch early this year.

The Smashed Jack was trialed in January, and sold out 77,000 burgers within three weeks. After the positive reception, the chain dialed back on offering the burger…until now. It has been officially declared to be part of the permanent menu.

CEO Darin Harris said on the soft launch: “We sold over 70,000 on the first day with no media support.”

The Smashed Jack is poised to dig Jack out of a slump due to slower sales as more low-income customers are opting to avoid eating out, and cooking in.

Harris continued: “We believe that it can help us throughout the year to outperform what we anticipate with some of the headwinds that we’re facing right now. Smashed Jack is something that we are leaning into and very excited about.”

The Smashed Jack Is Sticking Around

The Smashed Jack features a juicy, seasoned 1/4 lb beef patty cooked in the “smashed” style, a technique that creates a crispy exterior and flavorful sear. Topped with melty cheese, grilled onions, tangy pickles, and their new signature Boss Sauce, all nestled in a toasted brioche bun.

Diners can enjoy the Smashed Jack in its classic form or indulge in the Bacon Double Smashed Jack for an extra meaty option. Both variations are available as standalone burgers or in combo meals that include fries and a drink.

In addition to the Smashed Jack, and like McDonald’s, Jack In The Box is exploring adding more value to the menu to keep their customer base intact. Both chains are currently brainstorming on ways to offer cheap meals to counteract inflation in the fast food landscape. McDonald’s is going all-in on bigger burgers, while testing value meals internationally and in the US.

Harris discussed adding value during a call with investors: “We’ve tested a value menu that we feel really good about, that we will roll out through the year.”

While the Smashed Jack is a hefty burger, it still comes in at $8.59, and the Bacon Double Smashed Jack? $10.79. Not exactly the bargain customers are looking for. Instead they’ll be relying on value staples like 2 tacos for $.99 and the $3 Jack Wrap while investigating adding more items to the value menu.
