Pizza Hut is really upping the ante with their latest creation… which is honest to goodness…Snake Pizza.
In case you think you didn’t read it correctly…you did. Pizza Hut has partnered with a Hong Kong restaurant to create a pizza using shredded snake meat.
The shredded snake meat would be from that of three kinds of snakes: Chinese rat snakes, banded kraits, and white banded snakes.
Thankfully, the Snake Pizza is only releasing in Hong Kong based Pizza Huts… with no plans to take it to other countries.
Pizza Hut Hong Kong provided a statement on the slithery new pie:
“Paired with cheese and diced chicken, the snake meat becomes richer in taste,” and “nourishing” meat “can boost blood circulation”.
Karen Chan, general manager of Pizza Hut Hong Kong and Macao, said:
“The extraordinary snake pizzas offer a perfect balance to all flavors, both tantalizing and savory for this season.”
In Asia, and other countries like Thailand, snake meat is a common thing to eat. It’s believed to offer health benefits. In Hong Kong, citizens enjoy Snake Stew like Americans enjoy Chicken Noodle Soup to warm their bones. Snake Stew is offered at diners in Hong Kong as part of their culinary tradition.
The Snake Pizza may not actually be the most “odd” fast food dish ever created. There have been countless international creations made by your favorite chains such as McDonalds, Domino’s, Burger King and Jollibee’s. McDonald’s Germany had a McCurrywurst which while it looked weird to us, is a beloved dish from the local cuisine in the country.
The most “out there” that Pizza Hut has taken it in the US was a Pickle Pizza which they offered last spring but only at a one location in NYC, over the course of a few days.
Perhaps Snake Pizza is delicious, and who are we to judge?
