Burger King is taking a walk on the wild side, introducing a new menu item being tested in Argentina called the Philly Cheese. This isn’t your typical Whopper-type creation. The Argentinian Philly Cheese takes inspiration from the iconic American cheesesteak, but with a Burger King twist.

The Argentinian take features shredded beef, a melty cheddar cheese sauce, and sautéed onions nestled in a toasted sesame seed bun. While it strays from the classic ribeye steak and provolone combo, it offers a familiar taste with a South American flair.

This isn’t the first time Burger King has dabbled in international cheesesteak territory – Burger King has experimented with regional variations of the cheesesteak concept before. Some European Burger King locations have offered a “Philly Steak” sandwich in the past, but details are hard to find because that was in 2009.

In 2018, the US introduced the Philly Cheesesteak Burger for a limited-time. It featured two beef patties, American cheese and carmelized onions.

Burger King hopes to attract new customers while testing a unique menu item internationally. This approach has been successful for Burger King in the past as they’ve offered durian fruit smoothies in Southeast Asia and black bean burgers in Asia.

So, will the Argentinian public go loco for the King’s take on the cheesesteak? Burger King isn’t afraid to experiment with global flavors, but for the US, it usually takes a minute to get the ball rolling. Hopefully we’ll be able to get in on this cheesy action once this thing is determined to be a winner. And how can it not? It looks like it has everything we need!
