Pizza Hut is getting “far out” with a new promotional/publicity stunt delivery method. It’s a concept they’ve rolled out to usher in the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem which comes out in theaters on August 2nd.

Since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live on an underground Subway, Pizza Hut wanted to do something in line with the Turtle’s natural habitat so they set up an out there concept in Manhattan’s Union Square Station.

They placed QR codes on ads set up in the Subway Station and marked the location as the Pizza Drop Zone.

As travelers waiting for their trains to roll in or out, entered the Subway, they could then call for a pizza by messaging Pizza Hut’s hotline with a turtle emoji, and wait in the designated area.

The Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Hut Lindsay Morgan, said in a press release on the collaboration: “With this new collaboration, we wanted to pay homage to the Turtles’ origins and their love of pizza, while also infusing modern touchpoints and a fun, creative take on pizza deliveries – in real life and through augmented reality gaming.”

Pizza Hut has also teamed up with the Turtle’s for their new movie installment, and will be featured in the film as the TMNT’s preferred choice of pizza.

Likewise, the TMNT’s will star in Pizza Hut commercials, and have their own Pizza Hut promotional boxes complete with scannable QR codes that bring customers a TMNT-themed game.

The underground Subway delivery stunt was only active for one day but the lucky participants to get a Pizza delivered to them during the campaign likely responded to the successful pizza run underground by saying, “cowabunga”.
